Whereas John Hamilton of CC (grandfather of both parties to this indenture) by his will dated Nov 18, 1708, bequeathed to his daughter, Elizabeth Hamilton, 100 acres of land, part of the tract of land that he lived on which was Burditts Rest, but did not mention where the sd land should be laid off. Sd Elizabeth also died without any possession of the same. Now the intention of this deed is to point out the boundaries of sd 100 acres, and to secure the same to sd Richard Wade (who is the son and lawful heir of sd Elizabeth), agreeable to the afd will, and accordingly, sd Burditt Hamilton, for 4 shillings and 6 pence sterling to him in hand paid by sd Richard Wade and for divers other good causes, has given to sd Richard Wade, 100 acres of land, being part of Burditts Rest in CC, Durham Parish, on the south side of Burditts Cr, containing and laid out for about 100 acres.
