Howard Pulsifer Gleason, ninth child and sixth son, was born in
Waterville January 29, 1872; died Worcester,Mass. February 2, 1956;
married October 17, 1901 Nellie Willard.
As was true of the other boys in this family, Howard attended the local
grade and high schools and then he attended one year at Coburn Classical
Institute in Waterville. After five years in a hardware store he moved
to Worcester, Mass.in 1893 where he worked for four years at Washburn &
Moen (later known as American Steel & Wire Company). He then went into
business for himself witha milk route, which became a large and
important one. He also was interested in politics (being a Republican)
and served on the Worcester City Council and then as Alderman from 1901
to 1906. In a campaign article in 1902, it was said of him and his
business "Regular and prompt, his attention to his customers accounts for
the enthusiastic way in which the close ward rallied to his support.
Less than a mile from the Millbury line, he may be said to guard the
southern frontier of Worcester. It is told with some pleasure that, at
the recent protracted session for the election of officers, he was
obliged to excuse himself at 3:30 A. M. saying that it was time for him
to go to work." He later owned a livery business, first on Washington
Street, and then on Central Street. The popularity of automobiles ruined
his livery business, so he retired in 1918 to devote his attention to
his garden operations at his home on Greenwood Street.
Like several others of his family he was a 32degree Mason and belonged
to other Masonic Orders. He also belonged to the Quinsigmond Craft Club
and the Dun Workin Club, YMCA.
He was married on October 17, 1901 to Nellie Willard. daughter of Wm. H.
and Hannah B. Willard of Worcester. She had taught school prior to her
marriage. She died in Worcester, Mass. October 8, 1952.

"Tinnie", as Laura Bell was called, was an immaculate housekeeper and a
very fine homemaker. She had a birthmark on one side of her face. In our
research of the McIntire family, we found that a child, Mark, born in
1777, the son of Josephand Lucy (Kingsbury) McIntire also had a
birthmark. If, as we believe, we have followed the correct McIntire
line, he would have been a great-great uncle to "Tinnie".

Lincoln Leroy Gleason was born December 13, 1863 in Waterville, the
fourth child, second son. He died in Orlando Florida on October 13,
1946. He was buried in Oakland., Maine.
The following article appeared in the Good Will Record;
"The Manager of Good Will Farm, Mr. Lincoln Gleason, was born in West
Waterville, ME. in 1863. His boyhood was spent on his father's farm,
where he received the educational advantages of the public school usually
accorded to farmer's sons. As he advanced in his studies his father,
anxious for his son's success in life, made it possible for him to attend
the high school in the village, and later he entered the Maine Wesleyan
Seminary at Kent's Hill. After spending several terms there, (from
1884-1887 enrolled in the Scientific Course) he went to New York State
where he finally graduated from the Eastman Business College in
Poughkeepsie.
"Succeeding years were spent in business life, partly in Oakland., Maine,
and partly in Chicago, Ill. It was while he was at his father's house,
intending to return to Chicago, that the invitation came to him to become
the Manager of the Good Will Farm.' The invitation was a surprise to
him, and he entered upon the duties of the position with some
misgivings. He had not contemplated any such work, although he had
enjoyed teaching the few terms that he had devoted to it.
"Having accepted the situation he commenced the duties of the office,
July lst, 1891. He has met the requirements of the position with
increasing efficiency, and with a growing enjoyment of the task. A manof
few words, even temper, gentle disposition, he has many of the
qualifications necessary for real success in this work. One could stay
but a short time at the Farm without discovering that Mr. Gleason enjoys
the respect and affection of all the boys in the Homes. It is a
pleasure to be able to present his portrait in this issue of the Good
Will Record.'
"He was Superintendent of Schools in Oakland from 1902 to 1906. In 1909
he was in Cumberland Mills. He went to live in Northwood Ridge, NH as a
farmer. He moved permanently to Orlanda FL in 1935.
"He was married May 1, 1893 in Oakland to Edith Marston. Their daughter
Hazel, was born March 6., 1896. She died February 12., 1920 at Wareham,
Mass. from valvular disease of the heart, and was buried in Oakland.
Edith Marston Gleason died October 21, 1903. Lincoln then married Myra
Nickerson. She died in Orlando, Florida June 9, 1961, and was buried in
her father's lot in Waterville, Maine."

STACYVILLE - Dale Glidden, 92, passed away Sept. 20, 2012, in Orono. He was born in Stacyville, the son of Asa D. and Ella M. (Willette) Glidden.
He farmed in his early years and then worked for Sherman Lumber Co. for about 25 years. He took care of his lawn and garden until he was 90.
He is survived by three children, Howard and wife, Pam, of West Enfield, Ella Astle and husband, Bridge, of Sherman, and Justine Michaud and husband, Jerry, of Milford; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, also nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille; parents; two brothers, Durward and Leland; and one sister, Irene Barter. The family thanks the staff of Orono Commons for his care

LINCOLN - Linwood Lloyd Severance Sr., 73, died Aug. 25, 2007, at his hom e. He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Solomon George a nd Cassie (Glidden) Severance. Linwood was employed at Lincoln Pulp & Pap er for 42 years and he loved to be outside, whether it was hunting at h is camp in Springfield, fishing, working in the woods or exercising his gr een thumb on his flower gardens. He especially loved spending time on E gg Pond with his children and grandchildren. His family will always rememb er the good times on the 4th of July and the lobster feed. Certainly he was oneof the earliest village blacksmiths of ancient
Portsmouth and New Market in New Hampshire.
Between 13 December 1667 and 29 September 1668, he sold his somestall it
Portsmouth to Richard Martyn and moved up the Piscataqua river to Lamprey
and to what was the nthe eastern part of Exeter, and later became New
Market.
Due to the Birth of his daughter Abigail in england, and his next child,
Susannah being born in Bostn, it would appear that his journey to Boston
was between 1658 and 1661.

He is survived by three children, David Glidden of Millinocket, Patty Pine and her husband, Steve, of Lincoln and Dennis Glidden and his wife, Wendy, of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, Melvin and Mindy of Bangor, Tracy and Terry, Corey and Melissa, and Tim and Amanda; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Hilda Perrow of Millinocket; a sister-in-law, Neanie Sawyer of Millinocket; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ora will also be missed by two special friends, Donny Murray and Ray Pasanen. Ora was predeceased by his wife, Idella (Russell) Glidden; a son, E. Melvin Glidden; a daughter-in-law, Patty Glidden; 12 brothers and three sisters.

Roland H. Glidden, 71, died Dec. 14, 1980, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born in Medway March 30, 1909, the son of Edward and Elsie (Lyons) Glidden. He was employed as East Millinocket road commissioner for 31 years, retiring in 1971. he was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a son, Reginald, East Millinocket; two sisters, Lala Bacon, East Millinocket, and Villa Murray, South Portland; two brothers, Walter and Bay, both of East Millinocket; an uncle, Carl Lyons, East Millinocket; several nieces, nephews, can cousins.

Note: Charles and Bestey fled from their impoverished existence in Calais to Oconto, WI, sometime after the 1850 census. By 1860, when they next appear on the census, the only child still living with them is 17-year-old Julia. In 1870, they have an adopted daughter, Hattie Spencer, age 6. Also living with them at that time are John and Katy Maynard and their son, Mindin. The relationship of the Maynards to the Hanscom family, if any, is unknown. They may have simply been boarders. Betsey was troubled enough by rheumatism in later years that it was noted in the 1880 census. At this time, it is not known when or where Charles and Betsey died, or what became of their children.

of Enfield, and George, the subject of this sketch. Mr. Glidden came

Mary Beatham, by whom he had four children - Harriet, deceased wife of
James Sibley; Augustus, deceased (1864) in the army; James, now in
