General Notes: Husband - Donald Angus Macbride Macdonald
Because of the large numbers of people with the same name in an area (particularly names like M(a)cDonald and Chisholm) nicknames were applied. It would appear that this McDonald family were the MacBride McDonalds. DOF lists him only as Donald Angus MacBride. Given the naming conventions, he would be Donald, son of Angus, of the MacBride McDonalds. See MacLean, History of Antigonish v 1 P 85-6: "In the year 1801 the ship "Nora" with 500 immigrants... Angus McDonald (MacBride), a native of Knoydart, and Roderick Chisholm, a native of Strathglass, two of the Nora immigrants, were the pioneers of ....Marydale." and v 2 p 84 note 5.

1801 The Dove of Aberdeen Sarah of Liverpool, Golden Text, Nora and Alexander all sailed this year to Pictou, Nova Scotia with well in excess of 500 on board from the Western Highlands. From the Casket, Waltham, MA. May 2 last, wife of Donald Cameron, late of Springfield, this country, at the age of 75. She leaves one son, and seven daughters to mourn the death of a kind & loving mother. In May 10, 1906.

LOWER SOUTH RIVER
A settlement east of Antigonish so called because it is lower down the South River of Antigonish and near the mouth.
The first settlers there were John McIntosh, Big Dan Chisholm, John Fraser, Alexander Chisholm (Cary), Roderick Grant and Rory More Chisholm who had emigrated from Strathglass to Pictou on the ship Aurora in 1803. In the summer of 1805 they began to make a clearing at the Lower South River. Hugh MacDonald (Squire) opened a store in the 1820's, in this fine farming district where four roads intersect. It is one of the best dairy districts in Antigonish County and in 1898 had a population of one hundred and thirty.
John McGilvrey (sic) was the schoolmaster at South River during the 1816-1817 term. In 1821 John McCaskell was the schoolmaster at Lower South River and in 1848 Wm. Hulbert was teaching nineteen pupils.
There was a way office in 1865 and Daniel Fraser was the way office keeper in 1868.
There are now several restaurants and motels as it is a popular stopping place for travelers on the Trans-Canada Highway to Cape Breton.
The population in 1956 was 262.

CASSIE BELL (MCEARCHERN) OTIS EAST MILLINOCKET – Cassie B. Otis 87, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Portland. She was born July 9, 1918, in Madison, the daughter of John and Flora (MacDonald) McEarchern. Cassie grew up and lived in Madison, where she married Donald Otis. She moved to East Millinocket and raised her family there. Later in life, she moved to southern Maine where she enjoyed going for rides by the ocean. Cassie enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Ma and Gram will be remembered sitting in her rocker having her tea and toast. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald in July 2001; two sons, Richard and Alan; two daughters, Frances and Kathleen in 1986; two sisters, Mary and Margaret; a granddaughter, Tracey Dougan; and a son-in-law, Lewis Gordon. Cassie is survived by five sons, Ronald and his wife, Janet, of Medway, Frederick and Donald of Portland, Reginald and his wife, Mary, of Blaine, Robert and his wife, Janice, of North Carolina; three daughters, Ann Gordon of Anson, Margaret Lee and her husband, Emery, of Medway and Shirley Baker of Portland; 28 grandchildren, Jeff, Jimmy, Cathy, Joyce, Darin, Joe, Tim, Tammy, Christian, Brandi, Christine, Robert, Patricia, Amy, Linda, Robert, Hazel, Elizabeth, Reggie, Pauline, Clara Jo, Jessica, Crystal, Lisa, Jodi, Nikki, Missy and Regina; 49 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society, Northern New England Regional Office, 1 Main St., Suite #300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.

WALTER J. SEAVEY
East Millinocket - Walter John Seavey, 86, passed away September 18, 2003 at Cummings Health Care Center in Howland. Walter was born in Rockland the son of Walter and Laura (McNeil) Seavey. He worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad as an engineer for many years. He was a true railroad man and took great pride in his job. He was married to the late Kathleen McDonald Seavey and they had two children together, Rebekah Pendleton Seavey and Gerald Seavey. He is survived by his wife, Annie Hale Seavey, a sister and her husband, Louise and Joe Pietroski of Rockland; a son, Gerald and his wife Rita reside in Andrews, Texas. He also leaves five stepchildren who loved him dearly; Everett `Skip` Cram and wife Shirley, Dan Hale and wife Glenda, Galen Hale and wife Lynne of Medway, Michael Hale of Bangor, and Pamela McLain and special friend Ivan Curtis; two daughters-in-law, Mary Hale of Washington State and Bina Hale of Farmington; also three grandchildren, John Pendleton, Dale Pendleton, and Sandy Sylvester all of Searsport; four great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Neil Pendleton, Jeremy and Kathleen Sylvester, a special niece, Louise Cole and husband Gary of Washburn, several nephews and step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Seavey Thayer, his daughter, Rebekah, special step-sons, Albert Hale and Frederick Hale and special granddaughter, Joyce McLain. At John`s request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. There will be a committal service 2:00 PM Monday, September 22, 2003 at Grindstone Cemetery Cemetery, Medway. Family and friends will gather at 12 Spring St. in East Millinocket for a time of remembrance. Arrangements by R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home.

Remains resting at Gillis Funeral Home, Eldon, until time of funeral."

Margi: Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. I don't remember if I sent you the names of Alex
(Brook) and Mary's other children's correct birth dates from the baptismal register. I went to the Glebe House in St. Andrew's and looked them up. Here they are:

I haven't been able to find out the name of Donald's first wife. It does state in the 1891census that he was widowed and living with his father and sister. I did find out that Janet (Jessie) was born about 1863, the daughter of Samuel MacDonald (Miller) and she died on 20 Decemeber 1925. I don't have my information on computer since I don't have one at home and only use the one at work to type my information on paper. Mary Chisholm, Alex "Brook's wife, was born about 1820, the daughter of Donald MacDonnell and Mary MacDonald of St. Andrew's. She died at St. Andrew's on 20 January
1873 from the Fever. She was 53 years old. My family always told me that we were related to MacDonnell's but they told me my grandfather's mother was a MacDonnell. This wasn't correct. It was his grandmother, Mary (MacDonnell) Chisholm, wife of Alex "Brook". This is why I hadn't
done much research on the family. I was getting mixed up by what my relatives were telling me and giving me wrong info. Well, I think we have straightened that part up. Bye for now.

Donald MacDonell b. in Scotland on 26 May 1753 and married to Mary
Scott. They came to N.S. in 1790 and settled in Hants County. Their
children are: Alex, Donald, John, Catherine, Margaret, John Angus,
Archy, Ann and Duncan.
Donald MacDonnell lived to the age of 105 years and died on 26 March 1858.

Samual, Allan and John. Donald died at St. Andrew's on 5 May 1870.
John, b. N.S. 1792. He was a blacksmith and died 27 Dec. 1874.
Catherine, b. 1798. Married Angus MacDonnell and lived at St. Andrew's
Margaret, b. 1801 married Donald MacDonald (McBride) lived at Marydale
John Angus, b. 1804. Married Suzanne Horne. 2nd marriage to Margaret Urquhart.
Archibald, b. 1807. He died 24 March 1885.
Ann (Nancy), b. 1810 and was married in England
Duncan, b. 1811 and married Elizabeth ??? . He died 15 Oct. 1883.
