George Rideout was a farmer. He and his family lived at Somerville,
Carleton Co., N.B..
He was killed in an automobile accident on U.S. Route 1A, at Easton Centre, Maine, on
Saturday, Sept. 10, 1966.

The Observer (Hartland, N.B.), 30 Nov 1961, p. 1: The death occurred suddenly on Thur.
evening in the Carleton Memorial Hospital at Woodstock of Mrs. GeorgeRideout of
Somerville. Although not in the best of health for some years, Mrs Rideout had been
around as usual and her sudden passing was a shock to her family anda wide circle of
friends. She complained of a headache on Thur. which grew more severeand was taken to
hospital where she later succumbed. The former Velma E. MacCallum, she was born at
Ashland 61 years ago. She had lived all her married life in Somerville. She was a member
of the Hartland Baptist Church and was active in the missionary society, and was also a
member of the Somerville Women's Institute. Surviving are her husband, one daughter,
Mrs. Hollis Dickinson of Windsor; three brothers, Edwin, Woodstock, Harry & Percy,
Royal Oak, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. Richard Pratt, Lower Brighton, and Mrs.
Raymond Gray, Newburg. The funeral was held from the late home on Sun. afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Raymond Warner... Interment was in Hartland's Greenwood Cemetery.

Harding was a major of Kenora, Ontario for several years and held otherCivic Offices. Joseph Harding Rideout worked as a R.R. Surveyor fortheCanadian Pacific for nine years. His Aunt, Sarah Rideout Abbott lived inSaco, Maine, where he visited one winter and met Miss Nellie PerryWinslow. They were married December 31, 1912. He was in World WarI andcame home in 1919, then he began working for the Post Office in Winnipeg,Manitoba for 25 years. He retired in 1944 following a stroke, which madehim unable to work. Nellie Winslow graduated from Colby College inWaterville, Maine in 1907. They have lived in the same house which theybought in 1920. These records were sent by Mrs. J. H. Rideout, 1790Ashbwin Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Jacob Rideout was born Jan 8, 1806 in Sheffield, Sunbury Co., the s/oOliver
Rideout & Susannah Seaman.
He first married, May 7, 1831, in Carleton County, Mary Nevers Kearney. They
had a total of 11 children, and
Mary died in Carleton Co. (probably Peel) July 4, 1860.
He married Julia Squires in Nov. of the same year. I do not have access to
the 1861 census of Carleton
County, but in 1871, they are living in Peel with a daughter Sophia, from
Jacob's first marriage, and
Jacob & Julia's daughter, who is listed as Adeline, born 1861. Between 1871
and 1881, they moved to
Castle Hill, Aroostook County, Maine, where in 1881, Jacob & Julia are
living with Jacob's son Noah
from his first marriage, and daughter Harriet A. (Harriet Adeline), b. 1861.
As far as I know, Harriet Adeine was the only child born of this marriage.
Jacob d. Aug 14, 1890 in Castle
Hill. Julia died in Sept, 1905 (place unknown).

John Rideout and Elizabeth Getchell were married by Rev. Samuel Eaten.
John married (2nd) Spring of 1839 to Margaret Shellrup. He was a farmerof Lincoln Co., Maine, and of Sandusky and Clermont Co., Ohio. MissJohnson writes "Just when John Rideout moved to Ohio from Lincoln Co.,Me., we do not know; but probably in 1818, as that was the year of thebig migration to the West from Me. He was listed in the 1790 census asbeing a resident of Clermont Co., Ohio. The genealogical books givethename of Rideout as being derived from the name of the occupation of theRiderout or Outrider for the King. In the old days, family names werecreated from the occupation of the first man in any group to gain anyprominence in the tribes, while the Anglo-Saxons were stillsemi-savages." According to Miss D. Johnson, John was a sea captainduring the Revolution.
